Restore Tilt Adjustment When Using a Filter Wheel or Filter Drawer

Installing a filter wheel or filter drawer blocks access to the camera’s built-in tilt-adjustment screws. The OGMA OAG Pro is an innovative design that helps you restore this important capability in your imaging train.

Practical steps:

1. First, get your main imaging camera properly focused.
2. Connect SharpCap to the guide camera and run it in live-view mode using a frame rate of more than a frame per second with a very high gain so that you don't miss the stars when they come into focus.
3. Leave the guide camera locking screw loose and slowly slide the guide camera up and down into the OAG until you begin to see stars.
4. Once you find the approximate focus position, tighten the guide camera locking screw while leaving the fine focuser unlocked.
5. Fine-tune the focus using the OAG's ultra-fine focuser.
6. Once the stars are sharp, lock the focuser.

There isn't a specific starting distance from the top of the prism to the guiding sensor, because the correct position depends on the optical spacing of your imaging train. Once the main camera is focused, you're simply trying to position the guide camera sensor at the equivalent focal position along the OAG's perpendicular optical path.

If you're using a very long focal length, finding the initial focus can be a little tricky. The focus range is narrow, so even a small movement of the guide camera can take the stars completely out of view.

To make the process easier, try pointing to a field of star that has many bright stars.

The OGMA OAG Pro features both six-hole and four-hole mounting patterns on the camera side, providing broad compatibility with popular filter wheels and filter drawers.

There are no threads on the camera side. Components must be attached using the mounting holes.

Please note: In general, OAGs are not connected directly to the main imaging camera. A filter wheel, filter drawer, or compatible adapter must be installed between the OAG and the camera.

Filter Wheels

The OGMA OAG Pro can be bolted directly to:

• All OGMA and OpenOGMA 2-inch and 36 mm filter wheels

• All ZWO 2-inch and 36 mm electronic filter wheels

• All QHY 2-inch and 36 mm electronic filter wheels

The camera-side mounting-hole patterns align with the corresponding mounting holes on these filter wheels.

Box-shaped, square, and disk-shaped guide cameras are not supported.
