Ogma 7-Position 2-Inch Filter Wheel with EZ Access (New 2026)

What's New?

On the larger 7 × 2-inch model of our filter wheels, we added an easy-access cap that lets you inspect, clean, or replace filters without disassembling the imaging train just to remove a speck of dust. We've had to deal with this more than once while imaging, and taking everything apart just to clean a filter is a considerable waste of time. So, we designed a solution. We haven’t seen this feature on another filter wheel, and we think it is genuinely useful.

We developed the electronics and firmware ourselves from the ground up. That gives us full control over the hardware, firmware, and driver stack rather than relying on proprietary electronics and firmware from an overseas manufacturer.

This version uses a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller, allowing advanced users to develop and flash their own firmware if they wish. This can be particularly valuable for security-conscious customers who want greater visibility and control over what is running inside the device.

We implemented an automatic recovery mode. If the wheel gets stuck or loses track of its expected position, it will automatically attempt to recover and return to the correct filter position. We don't know of another filter wheel that can do that.

We also refined the external shape to make it smoother and reduce the chance of cables snagging during operation.

Highlights

Filters inevitably collect dust. They may also need to be inspected, repositioned, replaced, or temporarily removed as your imaging requirements change.

With most electronic filter wheels, reaching the filters means removing the camera or off-axis guider, disconnecting adapters, disturbing cable routing, or opening the wheel’s entire outer cover. On some imaging trains, the cover screws are blocked by equipment attached directly to the wheel.

The OGMA OFW72EZ solves this problem with a dedicated filter-access cap.

Your camera, OAG, adapters, and filter wheel can remain connected. Camera orientation, optical spacing, and cable routing remain undisturbed while you service the filters.

Only the access area is opened rather than exposing the complete interior of the filter wheel.

DSO Camera Friendly

Broad mechanical compatibility with dedicated DSO cameras.

Camera and Telescope Compatibility

This OGMA Filter Wheel is designed for broad mechanical compatibility and is among the most versatile options available today. Unlike many third-party filter wheels, it can be mounted directly to QHY cooled cameras without modifying or enlarging mounting holes. This is possible because the OGMA Filter Wheel uses correctly sized mounting clearances, whereas many non-QHY wheels use undersized holes that require drilling.

The following camera families were explicitly considered during the design process. Additional models may also be compatible depending on their mechanical interface.

  • All OGMA cooled cameras.

  • ToupTek and ZWO cooled cameras with six M2.5 mounting holes on the front flange (e.g., ATR3, ASI2600, ASI6200).

  • QHY cameras with six M3 screws mounting holes on the front flange (e.g. QHY268M/C)

  • Player One cooled cameras with six M2.5 mounting holes on the front flange, provided you are comfortable installing the filter wheel rotated by 30°.

  • All Threaded cameras with a male M42 front thread, such as ASI1600, ASI294, SVBony SV605, or SV405.

  • The package also includes adapters to support a wide range of camera and telescope connections:

    • M54 (M) to M42 (F) thread adapter (recommended on the camera side for M42 front threaded cameras)

    • M54 (M) to M48 (F) x 17.5 mm extension (recommended on the telescope side when not using an OAG)
